Summary
This website shows things about modern and traditional China, travel, study, news, business, Chinese learning materials, tools and resources, forum and language exchange club.
When I taught Chinese in the States, I asked my students to explore and use this website a lot. Usually, when I first start to introduce Chinese language to beginners, I introduce my name first. And then ask students to go to "Chinese name" to search how to write their names in Chinese characters. It shows lots of Englsh names in Chinese characters, also other countries' names. But usually, even if students see how their names translated into Chinese charachters on the webpage, they still don't know how to pronounce and write it, Chinese characters looks complecated to them. I will still have to teach them to write their Chinese names stroke by stroke and correct their pronounciation. I can just always teach them their Chinese names on white board, but it is fun to find their names in the computer lab by themselves, and they can also find their parents and sibling's names if they know the technology resouce.
In nowadays, even Chinee people don't write with their hands a lot, but type on computers instead. So I ask my American students to practice typing in Chinese characters on this website. But we also practice writing Chinese characters with hands a lot. I encourage my students to learn more by themselves on the website, it has many lessons which students could listen to them on line to learn. They can als know a lot of culture stuff through this website.
Reflection
I think this website is a really good resouce for American students to learn Chinese. It includes many important aspects about Chinese language and culture. Students are always excited that they could go to computer lab to learn. But there are also some shortages that the website or say technology can not meet our need. 1. For learning Chinese language, writing Chinese characters is one of the most important skills, students love technology, but the softwares we have today are still not enough to show students how to write evry single character yet, they still have to follow some traditional ways to learn, like practicing writing with their hands a lot. 2. There is no website could meet everyone's need, when we learn some Chinese culture content, the students must explore on many websites, search on google, especially for some certain topics. Technology changed students' ways of learning, however sometimes it shows it is still not enough, so we need technology to be more developed, more humane and highlier targeted. And we always need to use technology flexibly.

Personal Reflective Paper
This is Xiao Liu, or Engish name Rachel. I understand it is hard for Americans to pronounce my Chinese name.
I graduated from college and got my bachelor degree in China 2003. My major is Chinese Language and literature Education. After that I had been teaching Chinese language for 5 years in China at a middle school. I came to the States in 2008 through an American College Board program. I taught Chinese language in Brownsburg East Middle School during the school year 2008-2009, and then a Colorado high school during 2009-2010.
Since I have been in education area for 7 years. I saw more and more technology are putting in use in this area. For example, I learned some softwares in college, when I started teaching, I used ppt a whole lot, almost in every class. Also I added some flash or music to the ppts. My students loved my class for they enjoy the colorful and beatiful environment and sometimes the multi-media showed something really funny. As the techology develops fast, I learned how to make Flash and how to make some simple program with computer. Last year when I taught at a high school in Colorado, they use smart board in their classroom. I designed some little games for students to learn Chinese and let them come to the smart board to operate the device. Students were so excited, because teachers don't usually let students use the board often. I have asked students to write a short passege about themselves in Chinese and read it out loud, for I have couple of students, sometimes they need to practice reading it, if we do this in class, it takes very long time . I asked students to practice many times by themselves, when they were ready, call my classroom phone number and record their reading to my voice mail at night, so I can check with everyone's pronounciation when I was free in my classroom. It saved our time, and we will never lose their voice, later I played their voice in class and they felt it was fun. I try to make diiferent ways to make my class fun all the time, because kids are easy to get bored. I realized more and more that technology is one of the most important ways to active kids' interest for learning. So teachers should master a lot of technology resouces and have the ability to find out more appropriate technology to suuport our teaching.
Come on in Technology Times!
